From the Streets to the Strip: The Rise of Command Performance in Underground Racing

In the high-octane world of street racing and performance tuning, where turbochargers scream and reputations are forged a quarter-mile at a time, one story stands out. Not just for its horsepower, but for its heart. Mac Bronson, the owner and driver of Command Performance is the journey of passionate car enthusiasts who ditched the conventional grind to chase their dreams, redefining what success looks like in the motorsports world. While attending the highly anticipated Street Car Braggin Rights event at Rockingham Dragway, I got to witness how badass those GTRs are from Texas. Major thanks to wiring engineer Trap, who I got to speak to after their kimbo sets another world record for the fastest 1/4 mile R35 GTR with the set time of 6.35 at 228 mph. We also have an interview with Mac that will be available on season 2 of our Roku TV show and channel, Street Cars 101 TV- Inside the Scene. Dates will be coming soon, stay tuned!

It all began with a young man, Mac Brosnan juggling school, grueling work shifts, and a growing obsession with fast cars. He wasn’t just chasing speed; he was chasing meaning. Through the chaos of early adulthood, he had a revelation: success doesn’t always wear a suit and tie. Sometimes, it comes in the form of grease-stained hands, turbo lag, and late nights at the dyno.

Born to Build: The Genesis of Command Performance

From street racing under city lights to fine-tuning beasts in the garage, the journey took a serious turn when Mac and his father (a skilled mechanic with years of experience) launched Command Performance, a father-son project with a simple but radical idea: build stock-appearing, street-legal monsters that defy expectations.

Specializing in Nissan GTRs, they focused on creating stealthy, high-performance machines. Culminating in standout builds like “Kimbo”, a deceptively tame-looking GTR packing over 1100 horsepower. These cars didn’t scream for attention, they earned it by dominating on the road and the track.

But dreams, like engines, sometimes overheat. Financial strain hit hard. The shop that they worked so hard to build was lost. Legal headaches and zoning battles pushed them to the edge. For six months, they had no workspace. Relying on borrowed garages, makeshift setups, and sheer will to stay afloat.

Yet, through the adversity came momentum. They broke through with appearances at major events like GTR World Cup and TX2K, where their builds caught the eyes of racers, sponsors, media outlets and fans alike. These milestones weren’t just trophies; they were validation of years of sacrifice. Ingenuity and unrelenting hustle.

Global Reach, Local Roots

Command Performance didn’t stop at the state line. They built strategic alliances with elite tuners including a notable partnership in Dubai, to push the performance envelope even further. Collaborations with powerhouses like Boost Logic helped scale their operation and introduce cutting-edge upgrades to their clients worldwide.

Despite their rise, they never forgot their street racing roots. They stayed grounded, even as law enforcement began tightening the leash on underground racing scenes. They began to navigate a delicate balance, building cars capable of winning on the strip while staying within the limits of legality.
