During day three, the temperature was not as much of a factor as day two. It seems to be getting hotter earlier every year, or is that my imagination? Racing at Rockingham Dragway during Street Car Braggin Rights was amazing, to say the least. This Photographer, not only loved being able to shoot the event again this year, but also being able to interact with fans, racers and the grounds crew was truly great. The racing was second to none. All of the work that management has put into making Rockingham Dragway a great venue to race was evident during this event.
We’ve been fortunate to experience Street Car Braggin’ Rights for three years in a row, but this year marks the first time it’s happening right in our own backyard—at Rockingham Dragway. Known as “The Rock,” Rockingham Dragway hosts events almost weekly, but none quite compare to this one. Street Car Braggin’ Rights (SCBR) is setting a new standard for grassroots racing. Their mission isn’t profit-driven; it’s about giving back to the racing community. Organized by promoter and entrepreneur Nate Prater, the event is already making a strong impression in the Carolinas, drawing in car enthusiasts, racers, media, and fans alike. This three-day event features thirteen different racing classes, welcoming everyone from amateur hobbyists to seasoned pros. With over $100,000 in cash payouts and ultimate bragging rights on the line, the competition promises to be fierce. – CLICK HERE FOR MORE INFORMATION ABOUT SCBR

Last year’s event was good, but SCBR 2025 far exceeded the 2024 event. I looked at the event from two perspectives: I looked at it from a professional standpoint and from a spectator standpoint. On the professional side it was a Photographer’s dream because we had total access to everything. I did not have to walk a country mile to park my vehicle. Next, access to the track, the racers and crew, and the stands was all so easy. The VIP section that included us as Media was great. Snacks, water and sodas were easily accessible and well stocked.

I also consider myself a fan who does a little spectating while I work. I get to interact with the fans who are there to enjoy their experiences with their friends and family. For some of those fans, it was the first time ever seeing the races live. I love seeing and hearing their reactions; they are priceless, and the fans who make the races a ritual, their reactions are just as priceless. As an avid race fan and all-around adrenaline junkie, I am always in heaven when I get to cover race events. Being able to see the races from different vantage points on the track makes the races even more fun and exciting. The sights and sounds from the track are amazing. If you are a car enthusiast but have never been to or thought about going to a race event, you really should look into it. You won’t regret it; I know I haven’t, not one bit.

Nate Prater and the SCBR crew know how to put on the races, but also an experience that professionals and fans alike will not soon forget. SCBR is more than just racing; Nate and his crew take great care in the overall experience for the racers, fans and anyone who has a love for the sport. They set an example and a standard for others to follow. Being able to follow, work with, and do what I love makes the experience all worth it.
To the crew at “The Rock,” the announcers, the grounds crew, and the folks that maintain the track and keep the racing going smoothly, you are the standard that all other drag strips should aspire to be. Be proud of the work that you do for each event, and thank you for being professionals.

That is how this photographer saw it
