Three-row family SUV earns highest rating in updated IIHS test

March 13, 2025
NASHVILLE, Tenn. – The 2025 Nissan Pathfinder has been awarded the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety’s (IIHS) TOP SAFETY PICK+ designation, marking the fourth consecutive year Pathfinder has received the organization’s highest safety rating. This recognition reflects Pathfinder’s exceptional safety features, even under IIHS’s increasingly stringent testing criteria.
“IIHS continues to raise the bar, and Pathfinder continues to meet it. Earning the top rating four years in a row solidifies Pathfinder’s reputation as a safe and dependable SUV for families,” said Vinay Shahani, senior vice president of U.S. marketing and sales, Nissan Americas. “This award recognizes our commitment to engineering vehicles that perform when it matters most.”
In 2024, IIHS updated its moderate overlap front crash test to include a second dummy simulating a small adult or 12-year-old child seated behind the driver. This test evaluates injury risk commonly experienced by second-row passengers. To earn the IIHS TOP SAFETY PICK designation, vehicles must achieve an “Acceptable” rating in this test, while a “Good” rating is required for the TOP SAFETY PICK+ designation.
To earn TOP SAFETY PICK+, vehicles must also achieve “Good” ratings in small overlap front and updated side impact tests, and “Acceptable” or “Good” ratings in pedestrian front crash prevention and come with standard acceptable- or good-rated headlights. The Pathfinder’s performance across these rigorous tests underscores its comprehensive suite of active and passive safety features.
The 2025 Nissan Pathfinder elevates family adventures with seating for up to eight, an available rugged Rock Creek grade and the highly equipped Platinum grade. Every Pathfinder features standard Nissan Safety Shield® 360 and class-exclusive Intelligent Forward Collision Warning1. It also offers class-exclusive available Intelligent Around View® Monitor2 for reassurance when parking, and ProPILOT Assist3 (SV, Rock Creek grades) and ProPILOT Assist with Navi-link (SL, Platinum) for simplified highway driving.
